National Plant Quarantine Services Division Building Inauguration and Blessing of Marker
Last June 2, 2016, the new National Plant Quarantine Services Division building located at 692 San Andres St., Malate, Manila was officially inaugurated. The event was held simultaneously with the Bureau of Plant Industry General Assembly and oath-taking ceremony of the newly hired and promoted employees. Also featured was the unveiling of the ceremonial marker for Cebu and Tugegarao Plant Quarantine Center Stations.
The inauguration started with a holy mass officiated by Rev. Allan D. Samonte. This was followed by the cutting of ribbon led by then-Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, then-Assistant Secretary for Planning & Project Development and BPI OIC-Director Paz J. Benavidez II, then-Assistant Director Dante V. Fidel and NPQSD Chief Merle B. Palacpac.
Following the mass, the blessing of the building was initiated by the traditional practice of sprinkling of holy water starting from the main door to signify progression of the new occupant. Candle lightning and tossing of coins which symbolized prosperity and abundance culminated the ceremonies.
The construction of the three-storey building was made possible through the collective efforts of the administration aiming to support BPI NPQSD in order to efficiently carry out its mandate and functions.
